Trauma and PTSD

Traumas are an emotional response to a distressing life event that leave the individual with difficulties to cope. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can result from the extremely stressful event and has a variety of symptoms (ref. NHS) ranging from:

  • Reexperiencing symptoms (e.g. flashbacks or nightmares)

  • Avoidance symptoms (e.g. staying away from certain places or feeling numb from your body)

  • Alertness and reactivity symptoms (e.g. being easily startled or having difficulty concentrating)

  • Feeling and mood symptoms (e.g. feeling you cannot trust anyone or like nowhere is safe)

C-PTSD (Complex-PTSD) refers to situations where individuals have for example been exposed to repeated, continuous or chronic trauma. In this case, the brain presents a dysfunction due to sur-activation of specific brain regions.

Eyeris Health Hypnotherapy for Trauma PTSD

There are multiple reasons behind PTSD and traumas can impact someone's life for the worse. Anxiety, Stress, Phobias, Behavioural patterns are only a few of trauma consequences.

Do not let your past dictate your well-being of today.

What can you do?

If you suspect you or a loved one suffers from PTSD (you will normally notice that the symptoms do not fade after a few weeks and are disrupting your daily life), then you should contact your GP.

You can reach out to charity organisations such as PTSDUK for support and advice.

There are multiple types of therapies available to ease symptoms. As per PTSDUK, multiple options are available with the 2 main ones being EMDR and CBT. They can work along side specific activities such as meditation, yoga or other activities. It’s also important to note that therapy can take place successfully many years after a trauma (e.g. repeated exposure to disasters, long-term exposure to bullying).

We can help with

Hypnotherapy

Using a variety of techniques (sometimes alongside CBT), we can reprocess how the brain perceives an event, healing it to 'reset' itself and develop new pathways. From there, the individual is able to reach a more relaxed state and clearly identify situations situation as not being a threat. New responses are therefore available to the individual so they can resolve their symptoms (e.g. sleep better, feel calmer, release anger, reparent themselves).

EMDR+

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reproramming is a well recognised method enabling the individual to process their feelings and emotions related to a traumatic event. It does have the benefit to not force the individual to talk about all traumatic details. Instead it focuses on reprocessing the information.

We are using an advance method of EMDR (hence the "+") to maximise its effects.

EFT

Emotional Freedom Technique can be used alongside EMDR and Cognitive therapy. Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of EFT for treating PTSD, showing it can be effective in reducing symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety associated with trauma.

Sophrology

A mind-body practice, Sophrology maximises relaxation effects and helps the individual to practice self-care outside of the practice.

Client Testimonials

''After a nasty horse-riding accident, I suffered from PTSD for several years before realising how deep my fear of riding again had become. I had two hypnosis consultations with Stephanie. We focused on different elements and specific issues during each session. The first consultation was also followed by a Reiki session which I felt anchored the ‘new’ frame of mind. Thank you so much Stephanie for your help as I am now riding again without fear.''
